Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has condemned the use of ‘highly deplorable language’ by an opposition leader directed at MGP MLA Jit Arolkar. Sawant, who returned after the Lok Sabha campaigning tour in Nagpur on Monday evening, took to his social media handle slamming the Congress for calling Arolkar 'Lappit' while stating that such language exposes the hollowness of the opposition’s agenda regarding Indian democracy and the Constitution.
“Those who tomtom about saving democracy and attempt to misguide people by creating a fake narrative of the constitution being in danger actually have no respect for any democratic values. The use of highly deplorable language by the opposition leader in Goa against NDA MLA Jit Arolkar exposes the hollow agenda of the opposition on democracy and the constitution,” he said on his X handle.
The CM also used the platform to remind the people that INDI alliance led by Congress, “gave India its darkest moment in democracy: the Emergency.”
“The ones who boast about safeguarding democracy and fabricate a false narrative of constitutional jeopardy lack any reverence for democratic principles,” he further said.
Arolkar, representing the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party is a first-time MLA from the Mandrem assembly constituency.
After CM's categorical statement, LoP Yuri Alemao tendered an apology while claiming he has not named anyone.
" I had not named anyone. However, some youths of Bhandari Samaj felt that the word used by me was not appropriate and claimed that it has hurt the sentiments. I have no hesitation to offer my apology. God bless all," he tweeted.
