A sailing expedition from Goa to Mumbai is being undertaken by an Indian Coast Guard sailing team under the aegis of Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (West), Mumbai.
The sailing yatch 'Antara' with a length of 12 metres and draught 2.5 metres, is being manned by four Coast Guard Officers from the Western Region and is skippered by Commandant Harish Hemant More TM, who has vast experience of sailing. The sail craft Antara was flagged off by Deputy Inspector General Arunabh Bose TM, Commander Coast Guard District Headquarters No 11, Goa from Mormugao Port on Monday.
The sail boat is manned by a mix of both men and women officers from Indian Coast Guard who have undertaken expedition/training on a similar crafts. The expedition will encourage other officers/men of Indian Coast Guard and youth of India to take part in the very fine adventure sport, centric to all seafarers, namely sailing.
The sail craft will undertake passage direct to Mumbai in the Arabian Sea covering a distance of 220 Nautical miles. Further, the crew will create awareness enroute amongst the Indian fishermen at sea who are important to safeguarding our seas and protecting our marine species. The crew will undertake the passage to Mumbai in 4 days and enter Mumbai Harbour on Mar 31.
The crew comprises of Commandant Harish Hemant More, TM, Commandant Arun Kumar Singh, Commandant(IG) Suneev Mandotra and Deputy Commandant Sweta Rana. SY Antara is a Dutch designed sailboat built by Aquarius Shipyard, Goa. On the occasion of 75 years of Independence "Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav", once again Indian Coast Guard is committed in protecting the Coast line of India with the motto "Vayam Rakshamah - We protect".
