After the appeal of Mapusa residents for the construction of a flyover at Peddem junction across the NH-66, it is now the turn of the Colvale locals to demand a flyover at a crucial junction in the village.Adhering to the demand of the villagers, the Colvale panchayat has written to the CM and the highway authorities to either construct a flyover or an underpass at the four-road junction at Camurlim.
The NH-66 passes through the village dissecting it into two parts.
People from Chicale village have to either take a long detour to come to the main Colvale square or take the risk of walking or driving across the national highway.
Besides the villagers, several school-going kids face an uphill task to cross the highway which sees heavy traffic zooming along the widened highway.
The locals demanded that the government must ensure that certain safety measures are put in place for the safety of the pedestrians.
According to the villagers, they had to cross the highway to board a bus towards Mapusa but faced the risk of being hit by fast-moving vehicles on the highway.
They have demanded the setting up of traffic signals and speed breakers at the four-road junction.
Colvale Sarpanch, Nityanand Kandolkar informed that they had suggested three flyovers across the NH-66.
“The highway sanctioned two flyovers and have been completed “ near Colvale jail and Binani “ but the third one was cancelled due to change of design,” said Kandolkar.
He said the third flyover was at the four-road junction in the village which is a very busy junction.
He also said that the panchayat has already proposed traffic signals and speed-breakers at the junction which will be set up after the highway is completed.
According to Fisheries Minister, Nilkant Halarnkar who is the local MLA, they have put forth several proposals with the NH authorities.
“We will take up the issue about the four-road junction with the contractor and find a way out in resolving the issue,” Halarnkar said.
