Cong asks govt to delay opening of schools

PANAJI
The Opposition Congress party on Thursday asked the Pramod Sawant-led government to defer its decision to hold physical classes in schools for students of Classes X and XII, saying the threat from Covid-19 was still real.

Sawant had on Tuesday announced that schools will open only for students of Classes X and XII from November 21, when the truncated Diwali vacations end.

Currently, all academic work is being conducted online.

The online mode of instruction will continue for students of other classes. But for students of class X and XII, who will answer the crucial SSC and HSSC exams at the end of the year, the Education Department has mandated schools to hold physical classes.

Sawant, who also holds the Education portfolio, had chaired the meeting which decided to resume classes for class X and XII students after the Diwali vacation from November 21.
