Cong stands firm on constitutional values: LoP

MARGAO
Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao has expressed concern over "the attack on constitutional rights, the murder of political and social values guaranteed under the Constitution, and the threats to social harmony" originating from the present BJP government.

“India is a nation that has taught the world unity in diversity. Let us stand for a liberal Goa and save our constitution,” he said while speaking after launching the “Jai Bapu Jai Bhim Jai Samvidhan” Abhiyan, for upholding the values of equality, justice, and the Constitution of India.

“It is the Congress party that has firmly stood for and espoused the letter and spirit of the Indian Constitution. For the Congress party, ‘Nation first’ means the Indian Constitution first. Mahatma Gandhiji stood for the brotherhood of all, tolerance, and non-violence. He practised what he preached. This Abhiyan will spread the message of tolerance, peace, and brotherhood of all people,” Alemao said.

He added: “As we know, Babasaheb, the architect of the Indian Constitution, was the torchbearer of equality, equity, and justice. It is his mission and vision that made the Indian Constitution inclusive. Hence, we have protection for the underprivileged, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and minorities.”

Saying that the Constitution is under attack from the BJP government, Yuri said, “We are all aware of how the Prime Minister of India is displaying and exhibiting his pretended and fake love for the Constitution. We are aware of the malicious and brutal references made to people from the minority community by BJP leaders.”
