Cong ticket for Mandrem not yet decided: GPCC president

PERNEM

GPCC President Girish Chodankar on Thursday made it clear that the party had not decided on its candidate for the upcoming assembly elections for Mandrem constituency.

Asked if the party had finalised any name for the Mandrem constituency during a news conference in Pernem, Chodankar said the GPCC would discuss names suggested by the Mandrem Congress Block and would send it to the central committee.

Others present at the news conference included former minister Sangita Parab, State Mahila President Bina Naik, Sachin Parab, Varad Mardolkar, Narayan Redkar, North Goa Congress President Vijay Bhike, Rekha Mahale and Sarpanch Suhas Naik.

He also made it clear that Congress had not formed an alliance with anyone, let alone the Goa Forward Party.

Responding to comments by Goa Forward Party supremo Vijai Sardesai that the Congress was planning an alliance with his party, Chodankar said: "Congress had 17 MLAs in 2017 and why did Sardesai not form an alliance back then? Funny to think he wants to join hands now when we have only 5 MLAs.

He also stated that Congress would give 70-80% representation to the youth in the next elections.
