Mindful of growing complaints among residents of Mormugao and Vasco over movement of heavy vehicles through residential areas, Gammon India Company has assured to resolve all issues regarding the port connectivity project by the year's end.Speaking to reporters during the inauguration of the hotmixing of roads near the Baina Sewage Plant, Gammon India Goa incharge R Prabhakaran informed reporters that works on the pending arm connecting the four-lane flyover to the port will be completed by the end of the year.
"We have expedited work on the pending scope of the four-lane flyover project. The four-lane flyover is presently operational but we have one arm connecting this project to the port and this arm enters Gate 9, the main entry to the port,” said Prabhakaran.
“We have to connect this arm to the flyover at Baina near Ravindra Bhavan. The work of the hanging bridge leading to the main entry/exit point of the port at Gate 9 will be completed by November and the vehicles can move in and out by December.”
“The link connecting the arm to the flyover near Ravindra Bhavan at Baina will be completed by April end. Heavy vehicles moving to and from the port can then use the port connectivity flyover project and this will help decongest the city roads as well. As relating to the up-ramp proposed from the city to the main four-lane flyover, it is in discussion stage and it is not yet cleared by the Government," said Prabhakaran.
Speaking on hotmixing work of the service road, Prabhakaran appealed to locals to cooperate for a few days to complete the work.
"Work on the service road will be done in a week’s time. We will start from the sewage plant and complete the work of around 1.5 km till Ravindra Bhavan in three days and later, we will take start the work from Ravindra Bhavan to Desterro in the next few days.”
“I request locals to allow us a few days till we complete the work on hotmixing the service roads and also appeal to people not to use this road for around a week. We seek their co-operation to complete this project and help everyone to have a great service road for their benefit,” said Prabhakaran.
