High Court’s intervention may have helped to streamline waste management at Sonsodo and get the authorities to take steps to tide over the unhygienic conditions in the SGPDA market.
But, does the intervention by the High Court augur well for the statutory authorities such as the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) and the Margao Municipal Council, which are duty bound to take care of hygiene and waste management?
High Court lawyer, Adv Cleofato Coutinho conceded that the intervention by the High Court in putting the waste management system in place at Sonsodo and at the fish markets indicates the failure of the executive in upholding the law in place.
He added: That the High Court has been intervening on issues plaguing Sonsodo and at the city markets suggests the complete failure of the executive. “This is very sad since the High Court has intervened because the executive has failed to deliver the goods”, Adv Cleofato added.
