The Calangute police have arrested a notorious criminal from Rajasthan Salman alias Shafiq Abdul Hafeez Mohammad, who has been hiding in Calangute for the last few days.
The 32-year-old had been evading arrest for the past eight days after allegedly assaulting a person with a sharp weapon in his hometown.
Police officials said that Salman escaped to Goa and took shelter in one of the guest houses in Calangute, disguising himself as a tourist.
The Rajasthan Police, who were tipped off about his presence in Goa, contacted the Calangute police followed by the raid and arrest.
Shortly thereafter, a team led by a Rajasthan Deputy Superintendent of Police arrived in Goa and took custody of the accused. Salmon is involved in numerous criminal cases in Rajasthan, the police said.
