Minister's batting for casino industry earns Cong ire

PANAJI

The Congress on Thursday lashed out at Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho for taking up cudgels for the casino industry on the 28% GST issue and questioned his bonafides by arguing in favour of losing revenue from the industry.

Addressing a press conference, GPCC General Secretary Vijay Bhike said it seems Mauvin Godinho has fallen in love with the casino industyy and hence was working for their welfare.

"Mauvin Godinho should first think in the interest of public and should request his double engine government to lower GST which is levied on essential commodities. Why is he trying to make loss to state exchequer by helping casinos? Has he done fixing with casino owners to get bags?," Bhike asked.

According to Bhike, who was flanked by North Goa District President Virendra Shirodkar and North Goa Youth Congress District President Rinaldo Ruzario, the casinos earn in crores of rupees and questioned the need to bring down the tax rates  on the business.

He said, Godinho's act confirmed their oft repeated charge that the BJP government works in the interest of crony-capitalists.
