The Goa Police on Thursday made a decisive move by suspending Police Inspector Tukaram Chawan of the Cuncolim Police Station, citing a 'supervisory lapse' as the cause.
Sources revealed that the suspension order, issued by Superintendent of Police (PHQ) Nelson Albuquerque, was based on a directive from Deputy Inspector General of Police Aslam Khan.
Although the specific reason behind the PI's suspension is not known, sources pointed out to administrative concerns. "It's related to a supervisory lapse in handling certain administrative matters," the source said.
PI Chawan is facing allegations of corruption made by AAP leader Sandesh Telekar. He is same officer, who while serving as the PI in Canacona in 2020, had initiated externment proceedings against Telekar for his alleged involvement in five criminal cases.
In a separate order, the department reassigned two constables, Akash Naik and Ganpat Tilogi, who were temporarily attached to the Calangute PS, to Fatorda and Cuncolim PS respectively.
This action follows allegations made by Manoj Singh, accusing two constables of colluding with his former business partner to engage in illicit activities along the coastal belt such as running illegal gambling operations and issuing threats to him and his family, with serious repercussions. There are also allegations that some policemen have vested interests in illegal activities
