The ongoing curfew in the State seems to have remained only on paper, if one goes by the shops doing business in Valpoi town.
Virtually all shops, whether they deal with essential goods and services or not, have remained opened in the morning and some shops are crowded with little or no social distancing rules being followed.
When contacted, Valpoi Municipal Council Chairperson Sehzain Shaikh said the council has already directed the municipal market inspector to inspect the market in Valpoi.
“The VMC has issued guidelines to all shops and establishments in the town. We will take action against those who violate these guidelines,” said Shaikh.
The situation was no different at Keri-Sattari till Sunday, as all shops remained opened for business.
According to locals, the shops are open in the market at Donmad, which is along the Goa-Belagavi highway, with some shops remaining open as late as 10 pm.
Following public outcry, Valpoi police went to Keri on Monday morning and got the shops to down their shutters.
