The Goa government is working on a policy decision to address mismatches in school curriculum frameworks, as several private schools continue to follow Central Board syllabi such as CBSE, ICSE and NCERT, while government and aided schools adhere to the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) syllabus.
The move comes amid the recent controversy surrounding Shree Mahalaxmi Primary School (Mushtifund Saunstha), which adopted the NCERT syllabus for Class IV, leading to questions over uniformity.
SCERT Director Meghana Shetgaonkar told The Goan that while SCERT syllabus is mandatory for government and aided schools, private institutions are free to follow central boards. She added that the government has already introduced NCERT textbooks for Grades 3 and 6 (except in local languages), and this will be gradually extended to other grades from the next academic year. The policy decision is expected to be finalised before the 2026-27 academic year.
