Residents of Curtorim on Wednesday called on forest officials over the issue of felling trees in the property where a construction licence has been issued for a housing project.
The local residents, along with Congress leader Moreno Rebello, first called on the Forest Range Officer and later had an interaction with the Deputy Conservator of Forests to demand an inquiry into the tree-cutting incident.
Moreno later told the media that, though the forest officials claimed they had issued permission to cut down 12 trees in the property in question, the number of trees felled is in excess of the permitted number. He told the media that while the lower-rung officials were trying to dodge questions raised by the residents, the DCF was kind enough to order an inquiry into the incident.
Moreno said the DCF had told the delegation to show the forest officials the number of trees destroyed on the property in question to take further action.
