Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco on Tuesday moved around Curtorim village in a vehicle to make a fervent plea to the people for a total lockdown for eight days and save themselves from the coronavirus.
With a microphone in his hand, the Congress MLA has planned to visit Raia village on Wednesday and Camurlim the day later again with a message to the people to stay indoors and the shops and business establishments to shut down their premises after 1 pm.
The MLA has also placed his ambulance and hearse van for Covid dedicated work in the wake of a spike in the cases.
Saying that he had to move around in a vehicle with a microphone with the hospitals running out of beds and oxygen, Reginaldo said staying indoors for the next 10 days is the only option to save the people from the disaster. “I see no other option that a voluntary lockdown, wherein shops and establishments can remain open from 9 am to 1 pm and thereafter shut down shutters, while the people stay indoors,” he said.
Directing his tirade at Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the Health Minister, Reginaldo said the Goa government should have the courage and tell Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Goa is facing oxygen shortage. “My humble request to the Chief Minister, please don’t save your chair at the cost of the lives of the people. Don’t try to please the Prime Minister. The CM should demand with the Centre oxygen and other medicines,” he said.
