As part of the 'Cyber Surakshit Goem' campaign, the Goa Police Cyber Crime Cell, in collaboration with the Dept of Education, has trained around 450 high school computer teachers in cybercrime awareness. The four-day training programme, held from November 21-25, 2024, at SCERT, Porvorim, aimed to equip the teachers with the knowledge to safeguard students against emerging cyber threats.
Following the training, these teachers have begun conducting cyber awareness sessions in schools, reaching an estimated 35,000-40,000 students across Goa. To date, 31 schools have already conducted such sessions, benefiting more than 4,200 students. The sessions focused on educating students about emerging cyber threats, modus operandis, safe online practices, and preventive measures to avoid falling victim to cybercrimes.
The initiative is reaching beyond students, with teachers providing guidance to parents to foster a broader understanding of cyber safety within families. This initiative is a part of Goa Police's ongoing efforts to promote a cyber-resilient society and ensure that educators play a crucial role in protecting the younger generation from online risks.
Speaking on the success of the programme, SP Cyber Crime Rahul Gupta said, ‘This initiative is a crucial step towards empowering our teachers to protect our students from cybercrimes. By training educators and raising awareness among parents and students, we are helping create a safer online space. We are grateful to the Department of Education, SCERT, and all participating teachers for their dedication in making this campaign a success.
He further added, “We are encouraging all teachers to continue these sessions and expand their reach during Parent-Teacher Meetings as well, to ensure that both students and their families are equipped to navigate the digital world safely.”
