Deaths of 10 cows cause concern among Sada locals

VASCO

The deaths of around ten cows in the last few days have caused concerns among residents of Sada and created an environment of panic in the area.

The residents have demanded a thorough inquiry into the deaths.

While some fear this could be some outbreak of a disease, others suspect the animals may have been poisoned.

Local municipal councillors of the area met the Urban Development Minister Milind Naik, who has assured that a post mortem would be carried out to ascertain the actual reason for the deaths of the cattle.

Naik also said the stray cattle in the area will be shifted to a goushala at his own cost and a thorough inquiry will be conducted into the deaths through the Animal Husbandry department.

He said doctors informed him that the biopsy samples of the animals have to be sent to Pune and by the time more of them could die. People owning cattle must take care of their animals so that they are not taken to the goushala by mistake, he requested.

Municipal Councillor Prajay Mayekar told media persons they were not sure if the cows were poisoned or whether they had consumed something toxic. We feel there should be a police inquiry and the Animal Husbandry department should also look into the issue, he added.

Another councillor Damodar Naik said that it was shocking to see one cow die every day. "We did our best to save one cow, but the animal was suffering. We stayed awake all night while doctors treated the cow," he said.
