The Rumdamol village Panchayat has been in the news recently when the government appointed an Administrator to run the Panchayat affairs after Sarpanch Mubina Faniband and deputy Sarpanch Mustafa Dodmani quit office.
While the duo had tendered their resignations as part of the understanding amongst the five-member ruling group to make way for other members to take over the reigns of office, what has raised many an eyebrow in local political circles is the inordinate delay by the Panchayat Director Siddi Harlankar to call a meeting of the Panchayat to elect a new Sarpanch and deputy Sarpanch.
For, it will be two months on July 29 that the outgoing Sarpanch Mubina had submitted her resignation letter to the office of Panchayat Director. Though the Goa Panchayat Raj Act mandates the Panchayat Director to hold the election within 60 days, no meeting has been called till date when the 60-day time frame ends on Tuesday.
