Carnival is around the corner and while this year, food and music will be in focus in the celebrations, King Momo was selected through an audition on Tuesday.
Emiliano P Dias from Raia will play the role of King Momo at this carnival and rule the region for three days.
Instead of the usual message of eat, drink and be merry, King Momo’s message to the citizens of Goa would be different “ “Be safe, be happy, rock and roll, but keep safe distance,” stated Emiliano after being selected.
“I am happy and delighted to be King Momo. I would love to keep the tradition going. It was my long cherished dream to be King Momo someday, which has now been realised. I had made up my mind and finally, I got the chance now. Today is my lucky day,” stated Emiliano after his name was announced as King Momo.
There were six contestants out of whom Emiliano was selected on the basis of his skills in acting and delivering. “King Momo is selected on the basis of personality, background, acting as well as music and dance skills, hobbies and style of delivering the message to the public,” replied Emiliano when asked what the criterion for selection was.
He has acted in two-three movies and recalled his role in the popular Konkani musical drama film ‘Nachom-ia Kumpasar’ (Let’s dance to the rhythm) directed by Bardroy Barretto. “I learnt a lot from the director of this hit movie which had 125 shows in Margao,” said Emiliano who was the director of marketing for the film.
