Senior officials led by Superintendent of Excise and an Excise Inspector conducted the raid for almost four hours at the bottling premises belonging to Rajaram Goltekar from Camurlim.

According to sources in the Excise department, the raid was conducted on a complaint that some chemicals were used for preparation of caju feni, a local alcohol brew. “It was a routine inspection where some samples have been collected and sent to the FDA lab for testing. There was a complaint and therefore, we raided the place. The premises will remain sealed until we receive the results of the samples,” said Shashank Tripathi (IAS), Excise Commissioner. He said all the ready material at the time of inspection has been seized and samples have been sent to the lab.

Sources informed that no chemical substances were found in the premises when the team conducted the raid.

A senior official informed that the owner of the bottling unit has all necessary permissions. He said the owner has a registered label and bottling licence for country liquor.
