Welcoming the government’s promise to compensate the farmers for the crop losses, farmers, however, said a two-way webinar would have helped the farmers to put across their grievances to the Union Agriculture Minister for redressal.
A farmer Valentino Rodrigues, who is a service provider for mechanised transplating, said the farmers are facing a host of issues pertaining to agriculture. He said farmers have to grapple with the issue of lack of access to the fields, adding that failure to de-silt the waterways destroys the fields.
He further said farmers also face the problem of destruction to the paddy by migratory birds. “A two-way interaction would have provided us the platform to place our grievance before the Minister for redressal,” he said, as he hoped that the government would involve the farmers in the interactive process.
