A 31-year-old man committed suicide at Naikawada in Calangute in the wee hours of Thursday.
Manmohan Nagvekar was in a senior position with a company at Verna Industrial Estate and police suspect he may have ended his life due to stress.
The incident came to light at about 2.15 am when Nagvekar was chatting with a friend in Mumbai on social media, and he told the friend that he would commit suicide.
As part of his job requirements, Nagvekar would often go to Mumbai to participate in meetings and conferences. He befriended a person and had chatted with him on the night of his suicide.
Nagvekar later ended the conversation and the friend tried to call him back but Nagvekar did not take the call.
The friend then called on the toll number of Goa police and reported the matter to them. The police immediately went to the home of the person and woke up his parents. When they went to the room, he was found dead.
Police sent the body for an autopsy and later handed it over to the parents.
The police found a note at the place of the incident reportedly written by Nagvekar stating that he would commit suicide. Calangute police is investigating the matter.
