Fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar has warned those violating the ban on fishing by mechanised trawlers until July 31 even as traditional fishermen alleged that several boats were still out at sea off the coast of South Goa, especially Velsao.
Halarnkar said Goa coastal police have been asked to act against those violating the ban order issued by Fisheries director Dr Shamila Monteiro.
The fish breeding season and monsoon ban came into force from June 1 and will last till July 31.
Earlier, Secretary of Goencho Ramponkarancho Ekvott (GRE) Olencio Simoes said, trawlers are still out in the sea off the coast of Velsao.
