Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has exhorted engineers to provide solutions for sustainable infrastructure in the State.
“Research, innovation and providing solutions are the prominent things expected from any youth who passes an engineering degree today”, he said.
It’s high time that our youth change their attitude towards employment. Placements have become difficult and time is crucial. Hence, youngsters must target self-employment, Sawant said.
Speaking at the inauguration of the newly constructed Annex building of the Department of Computer Engineering at Goa College of Engineering (GEC), Farmagudi, Sawant also laid the foundation stone for the upcoming Career Guidance, Training and Placement Office funded under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA).
Minister for Art & Culture Govind Gaude, Minister for PWD Deepak Prabhu Pauskar, Director, Technical Education Dr Vivek Kamat & Principal, GEC Dr Kripashankar M S were present among others.
The Annexe building of the Computer Engineering Department houses three classrooms of 90 seats, a tutorial room on the second floor; and a computer lab, meeting room, and faculty cabins on the first floor. It also has a seminar hall with a capacity of 90 seats, three classrooms for Master of Engineering students and a girls’ common room on the ground floor.
“Making a student ready for a brighter future is not merely a teacher’s responsibility, students too must work hard. Choosing the right career path is a challenge today, and a Career Counselling Centre will definitely prove fruitful in providing an individual with good career opportunities,” opined Gaude.
Minister for PWD Pauskar said that the government has always been on its forefront while completing educational infrastructure.
“The PWD has always prioritized educational infrastructures. As the annexe building is all set to host classes, the necessary furniture shall also be provided soon so that the students can enjoy the learning process.”
