Some services at the Bardez sub-registrar office at Mapusa were down on Thursday due to outage in the internet service, making life difficult for the general public.
The initial trickle soon turned into a crowd as people with prior appointments made a beeline to the sub-registrar office.
They had no other option but to wait until the service was restored.
Several people from as far as Ponda had come for registration of marriages. Sales deeds could also not be registered due to internet outage.
“We had taken prior appointment online. Does the office not have a backup? If the government cannot ensure proper internet connectivity then why have they moved to online service?” an agitated groom asked, requesting anonymity.
Some regulars who were present in the office informed that the crashing of the internet was a regular feature at the Bardez sub-registrar office.
People who had queued up since early morning had to wait till 12 noon when the internet connection was finally restored.
The Bardez Sub-Registrar Arjun Shetye said the outage was due to the cut in the fibre line and it affected all government departments in the State.
“Several people had come from faraway places. We could not just send them back. We requested them to wait for some time. All of them were serviced after the internet connection was restored,” Shetye informed.
