SANGUEM
The forest fire at Colomba area in Curdi-Sanguem has been extinguished after strenuous efforts by teams from the forest department.
Assistant Conservator of Forest Minguel Fernandes, who is in charge of the Colomba beat, informed The Goan that the forest teams managed to bring the fire under control in the morning hours and managed to douse it completely by late evening.
“The team had to work in full force and without any break, to prevent the forest fire from spreading to other areas. As far as the Colomba beat is concerned, there is no live fire as of now as the forest department has put in its best efforts. However, we hope no fresh fire starts at night.”
Fernandes said the last 15 days had been very tiring as fire incidents in the thick forest areas every alternate day kept the forest teams on their toes.
Meanwhile, officials incharge of the Netravali beat where two live fires are reportedly said to be active, could not be contacted.
Residents in the vicinity of the live fire at Potrem, however, informed that the fire continued till late Monday evening and the forest department team was working hard to douse the fire. The villagers claimed the fire had reduced to a large extent, as compared to the flames in the last two days.
