Calf traced, accused get 5-day police remand

The two accused arrested of killing a cow in Siolim-Sodiem have been remanded to five days police custody even as the missing calf was found on Monday morning.

After a frantic search, locals along with the police found the one-year-old calf that went missing in a forested area around 1 km away from the spot where it was tied.

“In a swift action and meticulous interrogation of the accused, we have rescued the one-year-old calf. This is a great success,” said Jivba Dalvi, SDPO Mapusa.

In the meanwhile, a JMFC court has further remanded the accused to five more days of police custody.

It may be recalled, Mapusa Police had arrested two persons for allegedly slaughtering a cow and committing theft of a calf at Xell in Siolim-Sodiem.

Police had informed that the CCTV footage showed that the accused were involved in the criminal activity and the duo had admitted committing the crime during interrogation.

Mapusa Police had registered a case under Section 429, 379, R/W 34 IPC and section 11(1) (i) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
