Former Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal on Thursday tendered his resignation from the primary membership of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), which he had joined in 2017.
Sawal, who had won 2012 State Assembly elections as an independent candidate, had joined MGP in January 2017 in the run-up to the general elections. He however lost to BJP’s Rajesh Patnekar. Sawal was part of BJP-led government from 2012-2017.
In his resignation, submitted to the party president Deepak Dhavalikar, Sawal said “party’s organisation has failed to perform their activities from top to grassroot level. So people have lost faith and hope in the organization”.
Sawal was holding the post as president of MGP’s executive committee. “MGP’s so-called leaders like Dhavalikar brothers - Sudin and Deepak - have failed to uplift the party. They have nothing to do with the grassroot workers,” he said.
The former MLA has announced to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from North Goa. “I will contest the Lok Sabha from North Goa. I will contest my supporters to decide whether I should go independent or contest on some party ticket,” Sawal said.
Party President Deepak Dhavalikar, while accepting the resignation, said that the exit of Sawal will have no impact on the party.
