In a major relief to the construction workers, the State government has increased the financial benefits under various categories including the maternity benefits for registered women workers who would be now entitled for Rs 30,000 monetary support instead of Rs 10,000.
The Goa Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board on Thursday held its meeting under Labour Minister Atanasio Monserrate.
According to the Goa Building and Other Construction Workers' (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2008, a woman worker was earlier entitled for Rs 10,000 as maternity benefit during the period of work.
As per the information provided by the Board, the Disability Pension for workers facing permanent disability, such as paralysis, leprosy, TB, or accidents, monthly pension for full disability is increased to Rs 5,000 and for partial disability it has been increased to Rs 3,000. Additionally, there is the provision of an ex-gratia payment, reaching up to Rs 1 lakh, depending on the percentage of the disability.
For workers who meet with accidents while on duty, Rs 3,000 will be paid per day for first 5 days and Rs 500 per day thereafter, with a maximum limit of Rs 6,000. In case of disabilities resulting from accidents, eligible workers can receive financial assistance, with a maximum limit of Rs 30,000, depending on the severity of the disability.
Financial assistance for marriage has been increased to Rs 50,000. A family pension of Rs 2,000 has also been approved by the board. Financial assistance for education for - Classes V & VI: Rs. 5,000, Classes VII, VIII, IX & X: Rs 7,000, Classes XI, XII, XIII, UAISC, etc.: Rs 10,000, Graduation and Post Graduation: Rs 15,000, Professional Courses (MBBS, BE, BSc Agri): Rs 50,000.
“All these benefits are applicable to only the registered construction workers,” the Minister said.
