The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) is preparing to hold a 'logistics conclave' next month with the focus on Manohar International Airport, Mopa, expected to commence commercial operations in early January.
Although no dates are finalised, the GCCI's Logistics Committee has decided to hold the conclave in January itself and to associate the GMR group who is the concessionaire of the Mopa Airport.
The GCCI panel on logistics is headed by Chandrakant Gawas and co-chaired by Dhirendra Thakker. It met last week at the GCCI headquarters in the capital city and discussed organizational matters and the plan of hosting the conclave.
Talk of promoting a logistics hub in Goa has been in discussion among industry captains in the context of the potential post the commencement of operations at Mopa.
The Goa council of another industry association -- Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) -- which is headed by Swati Salgaocar has also been engaged in talks with the State government to promote a logistics hub, pinning its hopes on the opportunity thrown up with Mopa airport now a reality.
CII's Goa State Council too hosted a conference on logistics in mid-September where the prospects of Goa's established pharma sector switches to routing its exports through Mopa instead of Mumbai.
Salgaocar is particularly bullish of a logistics hub evolving in Goa due to its multi-modal infrastructure for onward transportation of goods via sea, rail, road and air routes.
