MARGAO
Terming the reports emanating from certain quarters alleging a racket in holding the Old market feast fair, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Thursday warned the police and Margao Municipal authorities that he would not remain a silent spectator if any attempt is made to cause revenue loss to the civic body and put residents of Madel to inconveniences.
He also warned the police to tread a cautious line, saying the Old market feast fair is a matter that was decided by the High Court putting several restrictions on the conduct of the fair.
Saying that the civic body had earned huge revenue during the Purumentachem fest held at Old market in June last when the Municipality was presided over by Chief Officer Rohit Kadam, Sardesai said the incumbent Chief officer Manuel Barretto should ensure there’s no leakage in the revenue.
“This Margao Municipal Council has bene formed by changing the time-tested law. I want the Chief Officer to ensure that there is no revenue loss from the Old market feast fair. The Old market falls in Fatorda constituency and I do not want any problems for my people during the fair. Do not think that I am blind, deaf and dumb to what is happening in the civic body”, he added.
