Karnataka police and excise officials seized a tanker near Kinaye village in Belagavi district after it was found carrying Goa liquor worth Rs 3.43 lakh being transported to Telangana on Tuesday night.
The seizure is part of increased efforts by Karnataka authorities to stop the inflow of illicitly transported Goa liquor in view of the forthcoming by-election to the Belagavi Parliamentary constituency which will go to poll next month.
According to Dr Y Manjunath, Additional Excise Commissioner, Belagavi, the tanker was illegally carrying 121 boxes of Goa liquor. Lingswamy Narasimha from Nalgonda district of Telangana was arrested in this connection and a tanker was also seized.
PI Ravi Murgod and team carried out the raids under the guidance of Manjunath and Dy Commissioner Jayaramgouda. It may be recalled that huge stocks of liquor was seized in February from a Telangana bound tourist bus.
