As part of the Ignatian Year celebrations by the Society of Jesus across the world from May 20 to July 31, 2022, the Jesuits of Goa Province will celebrate an online Mass at the Bom Jesus Basilica in Old Goa on Thursday at 10 am. The Mass at the Basilica will be telecast on the YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/PUOiFNpOvEc) for the benefit of people in the State. “The Jesuits across the world will celebrate the Ignatian Year to commemorate two events,” explained Fr Apollo Cardozo SJ, coordinator of programmes for the Goa Province.
“The first event marks the 500 years of Ignatius’ conversion at his castle, which took place on May 20, 1521 after he was badly wounded at the battle of Pamplona, while trying to defend the fort with a small band of dedicated soldiers against the mighty French army.”“The second event marks the 400 years of his canonization along with Francis Xavier on March 12, 1622.”
“To commemorate these twin events, Jesuits all over the world have planned a number of programmes - Province wise, Assistancy wise, etc, during the course of the year at different levels “ for the Jesuits and for the Lay Collaborators (parents of Jesuits, staff, parishioners, benefactors, etc),” added Fr Cardozo.
