PANAJI
The State government has notified two village clusters, one in each district, for taking up specific development projects taking into account their mixed rural as well as urban character under the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Rurban Mission (SPMRM).
Saligao and villages around it is the cluster chosen from North Goa and the region around Xeldem-Morpirla-Barcem in Quepem is the one in South Goa picked by the State government.
These clusters are notified as the ‘Planning Area’ for development under the SPMRM, which aims to develop such areas to provide for economic, social and physical infrastructure.
Apart from Saligao, the other Bardez villages contiguous to it have been clubbed as a cluster. These villages are: Guirim, Pilerne, Nerul, Reis Magos and Sangolda.
In the South, Ambaulim, Avedem Cotombi, Balli-Adnem, Quedem, Cavorem-Pirla, Fatorpa, Molcornem, and Naqueri-Quitol are part of the Xeldem-Morpirla-Barcem Cluster.
