Govt will provide adequate sanitation at jetties: Minister

Fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar has said the State government intends to provide adequate infrastructure at various jetties in the State, to address the issue of hygiene and sanitation.

He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the sanitation facilities at the Malim Jetty.

“The government has undertaken several significant initiatives to enhance facilities at the Malim Jetty in support of the local fishing community. In terms of sanitation, a 13-seater toilet block is already operational at the site and is being maintained by Sulabh International,” said Halarnkar.

“Additionally, a new 20- seater toilet block has been constructed. Furthermore, the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) has awarded the work order for the remaining development works at the jetty. These are scheduled for completion by July 2026. This new facility will also be maintained by Sulabh International.”

Stating that Malim Jetty is an important jetty of fishermen to conduct their fishing activities, Halarnkar appreciated the support of GSIDC in setting up the toilet block and appealed to stakeholders to maintain the project.

Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte and Saligao MLA & GSIDC Vice-Chairman Kedar Naik also spoke on the occasion. 

ZP Member Kavita Naik, Ex- ZP Member Gupesh Naik, Secretary of Fisheries Prasanna Acharya IAS, Director of Fisheries Dr Shamila Monteiro, Chairman of Mandovi Fishermen Marketing Society at Malim Jetty Francisco D Souza, and Controller of Sulabh International Sushil Kumar were among those present at the function.
