Panaji: GPCC President Amit Patkar has written a letter to Ramesh Tawadkar, the Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, urging him to make a prompt decision on pending Disqualification Petitions against eight MLAs who defected from Congress to BJP in September 2022.
In his letter written today (Monday), Patkar highlighted the Disqualification Petition filed on December 6, 2022, against the aforementioned MLAs who switched allegiance from Congress to BJP on September 14, 2022. He stressed the need for a timely resolution of the matter.
The letter also referenced a recently disposed of Petition against two MLAs, Michael Lobo and Digambar Kamat, which was previously filed by Amit Patkar himself.
Amit Patkar emphasized the violation of the Xth Schedule of the Constitution of India by Michael Lobo, Digambar Kamat, Aleixo Sequeira, Sankalp Amonkar, Rodolfo Fernandes, Delilah Lobo, Rajesh Faldessai, and Kedar Naik. He urged the Speaker to take action and disqualify these MLAs.
Expressing his intent to explore all legal avenues if the Speaker continues to delay the decision on the pending Petition, Amit Patkar expressed the urgency of the matter. Subsequently, Amit Patkar filed a Disqualification Petition against all eight MLAs, which has been pending for the last 17 months before the Speaker.
