A group of people led by Michael Gracias, a resident of Majorda, has filed a complaint with the Colva Police Station against one Abhishek Banerj for hurting the religious sentiments of Christians and other devotees of St Francis Xavier with an objectionable post on the social media platform 'X'.
"St Francis Xavier is highly revered in Goa by people of all faiths and acknowledged as 'Goencho Saib', the Lord of Goa, a fact ascertained by the honourable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi ji, during his recent visit to our State. St Francis Xavier is revered as a Saint and an educator credited for exploring and modernizing many countries and opening the doors for globalization," the complaint read.
"For his devout Christian life, he has been declared a saint in the Catholic Church and for his love for all the Goans, people of Goa having faith in his miraculous intercession claim him as Goencho Saib. This year his relics will be exposed for public veneration called "The Solemn Exposition of the Holy Relics of St Francis Xavier" which occurs every 10 years.
"The recent post by some Abhishek Banerj on social media handle 'X' dated 25th May 2024 at 10.13 pm, posting the picture of St Francis Xavier and relating events which are historically not relating to him is taken to aimed to hurt the sentiments of the devotees of St Francis Xavier and tarnishing the image of a disciplined and faithful community.
"Therefore, we file a complaint against the said accused with the user id 'Abhishek Banerj' on social media handle 'X' for hurting religious sentiments and instigating to create a social unrest in Goa," the complaint stated.
