Hand us schools likely to be closed, merged: AAP to government

PANAJI

The Aam Aadmi Party in the State has demanded that government should allow it to adopt government schools which are likely to be closed or merged with other schools.
The AAP Goa unit on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to this effect to the Director of Education.
"As per the new government’s policy, schools with a lower number of students will be merged or closed. AAP and people from education field have given a representation to the director of education with a demand that government should not close these schools. Rather, it should allow AAP to adopt these schools,” said AAP State Convenor Amit Palekar.
"We will run these schools. The Delhi government has improved the standard of government schools and people there are shifting their children from private schools. We can prove that this is also possible in Goa.”
Stating that he had studied in a government primary school, Palekar said the condition of government primary schools is bad and the number of students has reduced.
Palekar said it was incorrect to blame teachers for the poor performance of primary schools.
"The CM has blamed teachers. I don't think teachers are responsible. Teachers are not to be blamed as they are smart, intelligent and very proactive,” said Palekar.
“There are some mistakes which have been done and we need to rectify these errors,” he added.
