High voltage damages equipment at Chimbel

OLD GOA

A sudden surge in the voltage damaged electrical and electronics equipment at Chinchwada-Chimbel and angry locals have blamed negligence of the electricity department.

Speaking to The Goan about the incident, a local Manifa Fernandes informed that on Tuesday evening at around 5 pm, there was sudden surge in the voltage due to which her induction plate got burnt along with two fans and two bulbs.

“Later when I went to charge my power bank, it blasted,” she stated.

“There’s a supermarket in my neighbourhood. Their refrigerator and CCTV camera got damaged. Another neighbour of ours reported that their modem and bulbs were damaged,” Fernandes informed.

She further blamed the electricity department for their failure in resolving the issue even when the same was highlighted to the staff several times in the past.

“For more than 15 days, we are suffering due to constant fluctuations and power failure. Every time we are informed that it is feeder fault and that the problem was with the transformer near the panchayat which is overloaded,” said Fernandes, while seeking to know who will compensate them for the loss.
