Hoble threatens to quit party, go solo

OLD GOA

Ticket aspirant for St Cruz Anil Hoble has said he is likely to resign from the party and go solo.

Till recently, Hoble had been stating that all aspirants would be together even if any of them gets the ticket.

The decision by Hoble, in case he contests as independent, would also have a telling effect on BJP prospects in St Cruz as the workers informed that many Hindu votes will be garnered by him, thereby spoiling the chances of BJP candidate Tony Fernandes.

When contacted by The Goan, Hoble said that he has still not taken a decision to resign from BJP, of which he has been a member for around 30 years. “I will take a decision on Friday,” he informed.

However, on contesting as independent Hoble remained non-committal as he said that with hardly a few days left he won’t have enough time to campaign.

Sources informed that BJP leader Satish Dhond visited Hoble at his residence on Thursday and this could be the reason behind him toning down on the threat.

Earlier during a news conference in Panaji, Hoble said he had served as BJP vice president for two terms and was promised the party ticket.

“I was suddenly denied ticket without any intimation. No BJP leader contacted me and it appeared that I don’t have any respect in the party. I feel neglected and have been taken for granted,’ said Hoble.

“There is a sizeable amount of Bhandhari community members in Tiswadi, but not a single Bhandari leader has been given the BJP party ticket in the taluka. On the other hand, 4 party tickets have been given to the Christian community leaders without any consultation with Bhandari leaders,” he added.
