A house was damaged and power outages and road blocks were reported at several places as trees came crashing down following heavy rains and strong winds across Sattari taluka on Monday.
Heavy rains accompanied by thunder, lightning and strong winds were reported in Sattari taluka at about 6 pm. A number of trees came crashing down at many places, disrupting power supply in many areas till late Monday night.
According to the Valpoi police, a number of roads closed for traffic on account of uprooted trees.
According to the Valpoi fire station officer Santosh Gawas, a tree fell on a house at Gholkarwada in Khotoda-Sattari. No one was injured in the incident, but the damage to property has been estimated at about Rs 1.5 lakh.
Fire fighters were at work to clear the fallen tree from the house. The family has sought financial support from the government, after claiming to have been rendered homless following the incident.
Valpoi fire station officer Santosh Gawas also stated that firefighters were busy clearing fallen trees from the roads till late night, in order to restore traffic along the routes.
