The Anti Narcotic Cell (ANC) on Monday arrested a Nigerian for possession of narcotics worth Rs 3.80 lakh. The arrest of Johnathan Chimeozie, 50, is the third raid in six days.
According to the ANC , the Nigerian was caught red handed selling methamphetamine and ganja during the raid at Arambol.
On October 2, the ANC arrested Nigerian national Innocent Nzedigwe, 23, for dealing in cocaine and ecstasy worth Rs 4.60 lakh. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Promise Umeh, a Cameroonian national, from Arpora with a range of narcotics including cocaine, methamphetamine, charas and ganja.
Umeh was found to be residing in Goa without a valid visa. A complaint regarding his overstaying was lodged with the Anjuna Police subsequently. A separate complaint was filed at Mapusa Police Station against the landlord of Umeh’s rented accommodation in Parra for failing to follow tenant verification procedures.
In the latest case, the ANC is verifying Chimeozie’s background, including the legality of his stay in Goa and any previous involvement in illegal activities.
"With these, the ANC has arrested three African nationals (two Nigerians and one Cameroonian) and seized drugs worth Rs 9.40 lakh in total," the police said adding the present raid was conducted by PSI Dindayal Redkar and staff of ANC PS under PI ANC Sajith Pillai and supervised by DySP ANC Nerlon Albuquerque and (outgoing) SP ANC Akshat Kaushal (IPS).
