Illegal structures in Sangolda Comunidade: Govt seeks 2 weeks to mull rehabilitation

PANAJI

The Goa government has sought two weeks time to consider a case for the rehabilitation of the occupants of around 30 structures that are scheduled to be demolished for being illegally constructed on comunidade land.

The structures, that were earlier directed to be demolished by the High Court, saw their appeal before the Supreme Court rejected.

However, the Supreme Court, while dismissing their petition clarified that if there is any scheme for rehabilitation, [the state] is directed to consider the case for rehabilitation.

Following the order of the Supreme Court, the affected person approached the High Court once again seeking alternative land be made available for them, a demand the comunidade refused.

The matter has now been posted for January 30 for the government to make its position in the matter known.
