MAPUSA
The burglary at Nasnodkar Jewellers in Mapusa market is just the latest in a series of bold heists targeting jewellery shops in the town.
This is not the first time that jewellery shops in Mapusa have fallen victim to such crimes.
In 2021, a similar incident occurred at Shree Jewellers, located in the Braganza building opposite the Mapusa Kadamba bus stand.
In that case, thieves drilled a hole through the back wall of the shop to gain entry, making off with silver ornaments.
One of the most shocking incidents took place in 2012, when the owner of Kamaxi Jewellers in Mapusa was brutally murdered during a robbery.
The attack, which happened in broad daylight, sent waves of panic through the town.
The robbers stole nearly 3 kilograms of gold in what became one of the most notorious crimes in Mapusa’s recent history.
