A series of burglaries and robberies within the jurisdiction of the Mapusa Police Station has left residents questioning the effectiveness of local security measures.
On Sunday, a gold chain was snatched from a woman in Verla-Canca by youth on a motorcycle, marking yet another instance of brazen criminal activity in the area.
Just three days prior, a couple was targeted by individuals impersonating police officers at Bastora junction, who relieved them of their gold ornaments in a cleverly orchestrated ruse.
Just ten days ago, a vendor in Ucassaim reported that her mangalsutra was stolen in a daylight snatching. In light of these incidents, locals are urging authorities to enhance security measures.
"It's alarming to see these crimes happening so openly. We need better policing and more visibility to deter these criminals," said a concerned resident.
The recent spike in robberies has prompted calls for increased patrolling, improved street lighting, and the installation of additional surveillance cameras in key areas.
