The Save Old Goa Action Committee (SOGAC) has now petitioned Chief Minister Pramod Sawant who is also the chairman of the Exposition Committee to prepare a Master Plan for Old Goa before the Exposition begins.
The petitioned signed by over 4,500 people was in-warded by SOGAC at the CM's office at the Secretariat on Monday.
Later speaking to reporters, SOGAC member Jacklyn Fernandes said it is important to have a Master Plan in place for Old Goa as many unwanted projects are cropping all over.
"There are projects like farmhouses, chocolate exhibition centre, heritage interpretation centre, garbage treatment plant, helipad, illegal bungalow and other constructions along with others which threaten the heritage site," said Fernandes.
“Only a Master Plan can prevent unwanted and illegal projects from coming up in Old Goa. We demand that the Master Plan should be in place before the exposition," Fernandes added.
Another member Vincent D'Silva said that the illegalities in Old Goa can be stopped only if a Master Plan is put in place.
"And this demand is being made since many years but it appears that there is no intention to fulfill the demand," D'Silva stated.
SOGAC president Fatima Pereira, members Peter Viegas, Evaristo Rodrigues and others were present.
