Tensions appear to be emerging within the state unit of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) following the assembly elections, with speculations rife that TMC State President Kiran Kandolkar is likely to resign or may be forced to step down.
Kandolkar has rejected these speculations, but has admitted to some rift between him and the IPAC advisor Prashant Kishore.
“I have no intention to resign as state party president, however TMC candidates are not happy with the IPAC team and I have to face these candidates,” Kandolkar said.
Unless party supremo Mamata Banerjee or Abhishek Banerjee personally tell me to resign, I will not quit the state president’s post,” said Kandolkar.
No senior TMC leader was available for comments into these speculations at the time of filing this story.
The TMC had contested 26 seats in the recent assembly elections but it is speculated that the party candidates have not performed according to expectations.
Sources said the party is expected to get sizeable votes in Aldona, Tivim, Benaulim, Velim and Cumbharjua, but it has not fared well in other constituencies.
This “underperformance” is believed to have led the TMC to consider a restructure of the Goa state unit, sources added.
