The State Cabinet is likely to take a decision on the implementation of the new motor vehicles rules with transport department clearing the file.
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said he has cleared the file and the Cabinet is likely to take a decision on Wednesday.
“I have tried my level best to reduce the fines”, Godhino who is pressing to pass this law said adding, “if the law is not implemented in the State, the central government will come down heavily on us”.
Meanwhile, the transport minister also informed that 59 people have been given Rs 2 lakh each as compensation under the road accident victim scheme.
He said that many applications are getting rejected as people fail to apply within a given period of six months. The compensation claim period will be extended to one year so that more road accident victims can get benefit, he said.
Lamenting that there were no claims under the scheme since its introduction in 2013, the government has now publicised the scheme and many people have availed benefit of the same.
Godhino reiterated that no further extension will be given to taxi operators to install digital meters and action will be initiated against those who have not installed them.
E-SERVICES: Godhino also launched 16 e-services such as renewal of services of the private vehicles, new goods carriage permit, renewal of goods carriage permit, cancellation of goods carriage permit, new nation permit authorisation, renewal of national permit authorisation, new temporary permit, cancellation of national permit authorisation etc.
The e-service will be fully operational from Friday, he said.
