Khola Gram Sabha resolves to oppose fishmeal project at Paryemoll

CANACONA
The fishmeal project is reportedly being planned in neighbouring Barcem-Quedem village, but residents of Khola have strongly opposed the project at the Gram Sabha amid fears that it would severely affect residents of Paryemoll in Khola.

At a Gram Sabha, residents feared that the proposed fishmeal project would contaminate the agriculture, horticulture and forest resources, as well as water bodies at Paryemoll. The contaminated water bodies, in turn, would flow into the river Saleri and affect the villages of Khola and Agonda. A resolution to oppose this project was passed unanimously by all villagers at the Gram Sabha.

Khola Sarpanch Krishna Velip, Dy Sarpanch Pandhari Prabhudesai, Panch Ajay Pagi, Kripesh Velip, Pragya Kamat, Tejal Pagi, Priyanka Prasad Velip, Priyanka Pavitra Velip and Madhav Pagi were present in full force in the 9-member Khola panchayat. A representative of the Block Development Officer was also present as the observer in the Gram Sabha.

Residents also raised other issues and highlighted the problem of potable water supply in the interior areas, with residents hardly getting water supply even on alternate days. They also complained about the delay in repairing damaged pipelines. They demanded a joint meeting with water supply officials, the panchayat body and the villagers.

A resolution was passed by the Panchayat congratulating five youth from Vagona-Khola for their achievements in the 37th National Games. Sarpanch Krishna Velip said that Goa will honour them on Independence Day and Prashant Kholkar moved a congratulatory resolution.

Rosario Goes, Rulu Pagi, Bhushan Kholkar, Harishchandra Kholkar, Dayanand Pagi, Pavitap, Jayprakash Velip, V Babu Velip, Gaurang Kamat and other villagers also participated in the discussions. Panchayat Secretary Damodar Kankonkar later proposed the vote of thanks.
