In a tragic incident, a labourer hailing from Uttar Pradesh died after falling off the eighth floor of the Essen Horizon Phase 2 building in Jairam Nagar at Dabolim on Thursday evening.
Sources said the labourer, Akib Raza, who was engaged by a flat owner, was carrying out some maintenance work when he fell off the building and died on the spot. People from the building were shocked after the incident and alerted the police.
A police team rushed to the site to carry out primary investigations into the incident.
Speaking to reporters, Building Society Chairman Ashish Ranjan said he had got a call at around 4.30 pm regarding the incident.
"I was in the office and got a message regarding the incident in our building whereby a labourer fell off the 8th floor and died on the spot. I immediately told the committee to inform the police and take the labourer to the hospital, but he had already expired,” said Ranjan.
“After I reached here, I realised that a flat owner had engaged the labourer to carry out some personal work," said Ranjan.
Locals said the tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safety measures in construction and maintenance work and demanded that authorities strictly adhere to safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
